If you?Äôve spent much time on our new site, you?Äôve probably noticed that I?Äôm a fan of reflections. I?Äôm also a huge fan of Apple computer and their advertising, which is probably why I?Äôm a fan of reflections. Apple isn?Äôt the only company in the advertising world that uses them, but it?Äôs a pretty good bet that they?Äôre the ones that started the trend.
In Design Matters, we talk a lot about using references in design work. Designers who use references create art that fits in to the present design culture. Fitting in with the design culture will make your worship media more relevant and appealing to those who experience it.
I?Äôve put together a video tutorial in two parts. The first part is a ?Äúsingle plane?Äù reflection. Basically, that means creating a reflection for an object that has no depth. Check it out:
You can download the file I created here (must be logged in):
SINGLE PLANE REFLECTION (40)The second video tutorial involves creating a reflection for a 3D object. For this part of the tutorial, I?Äôve pre-clipped a Rubik?Äôs Cube. You can download that file and follow along with the video below (must be logged in):
SMALL RUBIK'S CUBE (31)
You can get the 3D file here:
3D REFLECTION (34)Of course it?Äôs not always that straight forward. Some objects are much more complex when it comes to building reflections. Hopefully this gives you a basic idea for how to pull it off.
