Catch the Midnight Oil guys lead a keynote and several workshop sessions at The Third Annual Churchmedia.net Convention in the Baltimore/Washington area July 17-19. Midnight Oil will also exhibit at this conference.
Here are descriptions of some of the workshop sessions. Workshop content may change; keynote is to be determined:
Keynote- Using New Media to Communicate the Timeless Message
The apostle Paul was the pioneer for using any and every means of communication to proclaim the Gospel when he wrote, "I become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some." (1 Cor 9:22) The Gospel story doesn't change, but the ways we communicate it as a Church may once again need refreshing. This opening keynote looks at some powerful ways Christians have "refreshed their image" in the past, and a few techniques for doing so again today, including a focus on the cultural shift from text to image.
Session 1- Digital Storytellers: Worship in the Digital Age
We in the church may have new media, but we have old mindsets. We are still stuck in an old world of textual analysis. If we can discover the power and potential of metaphor, we can transform worship. Includes sample services.
Session 2- Design Matters 1: The Basics for Communicating with Image in Worship
Creating powerful images for worship is not just for another congregation with more resources. Sit in on a "design master class" and discuss 6 principles for making images. Explore preaching with images, as well. The session finishes as we walk through a step-by-step tutorial on building an image for worship.
Session 3- Design Matters 2: Putting a Graphics Package Together
Conceptualize, create and display a set of images and media for worship that will effectively communicate the gospel. This step-by-step session will guide you through the entire process of making media for a worship service. Includes how to find source material, how to prepare images, and a comparison of worship presentation software options.
