Dear MO Guys,
To correct the condition whereby MPEG video may play on your computer but not project on a screen, perform the following:
[I’m using a Sony Vaio PCG-FXA40 (PCG-9B2L) notebook computer with Windows XP Home Edition, version 2002. The processor is an ADM Athlon-4 1.2 GHz with 512 MB of RAM.]
1. Right-click with the cursor on the desktop (not on the start button or taskbar), displaying a menu showing “Properties” as its last item.
2. Left-click “Properties”, displaying a menu titled “Display Properties”.
3. Left-click the “Settings” tab.
4. Left-click the “Advanced” button, showing the settings for the Graphics Card.
5. Left-click the “Troubleshoot” tab.
6. Look for the Hardware Acceleration information and control. My computer’s default setting is full-acceleration, but this prevents it from passing code to the projector in a manner in which MPEG files can be displayed (though these play perfectly on the computer’s monitor). Manually reset the acceleration by trial-and-error, moving the marker from full towards no acceleration. I had to set my computer at 40% in order to get MPEG files to project.
7. After each resetting of the acceleration, left-click the OK button at the bottom of this menu, returning to the “Display Properties” menu.
8. Left-click the OK button at the bottom of this menu too, returning to the desktop.
9. Test the computer’s use for projection, repeating steps 6-8 as necessary, lowering the acceleration for each test, until you are satisfied with the result.
10. When everything is working as you expect it to, as a precaution, note the settings and restart your computer. You should not need to go through this process again.
